Every March 10, world-wide demonstrations and rallies commemorate the 1959 uprising against the Chinese occupation of Tibet. The rebellion failed and was followed by a violent crackdown on Tibetan independence movements and the flight of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and thousands of refugees into exile. Vicious human rights abuses against Tibetans continue to this day, provoking an unprecedented wave of 144 self-immolations by Tibetan monks, nuns, teenage students, mothers, and respected community members. Refugees are still escaping into India and Nepal.

The Venerable Khenpo Karten Rinpoche, a renowned Tibetan Buddhist monk, scholar, and teacher was forced, in 1998, to flee Chinese persecution in his country.

Rinpoche came to the Monterey Peninsula in 2008 and recently established Manjushri Dharma Center in Pacific Grove for Buddhist studies and meditation. Rinpoche regularly provides public talks, meditation instruction, and teaching.

Join Khenpo Karten Rinpoche in support of a Thursday, March 10 at Windows on the Bay from 4 - 6 PM.
