Monday night Amitābha practice with Rinpoche!
dear Dharma brother and sister of Khenpo Karten Rinpoche, We had a wonderful teaching with Rinpoche about the Four Noble Truths last night. More than 50 people joined us for this special evening. Welcome to all who have come for the first time to be with Rinpoche! The Four Noble Truths was the first of the historical Buddha's teachings and the basis for many other Buddhist lessons. If you are very new to Buddhism, or you have studied it for many years, it can affect your life in a very profound way. Below is the basic information about the Four Noble Truths, which Rinpoche explained in very good detail last night. One of our Dharma members, Lynn Johnson, pointed out that we can get FREE PARKING near Wave St. Studios. Go to the Public City Garage at Foam and Prescott (maybe after 5 p.m.?) and show your local ID. This is good for all residents of Monterey County. Good news! No more meters! I haven't tried this but it was confirmed by another person last night. Thank you, Lynn. We will meet for our regular Amitābha Practice this Monday night, Feb. 27, 6:30 p.m. at Wave St. Studios. 774 A Wave. St., Monterey. We would once again thank our gracious hosts at Wave St. Studios for hosting us for our Dharma practice. The studio looked amazing for the teaching last night, we feel so blessed to be able to meet in this magical space. Our next Public Talk: Happiness in a Troubled World Friday, March 30, 7-9 p.m., at Pacific Coast Church, 522 Central Ave., Pacific Grove, CA We asked how people found out about yesterday's teaching...newspaper ads, internet, friends? It turns out that most people came because their friends had told them about the event. Since we spent a lot of money on the newspaper ads, in the Monterey County Weekly and the Herald, we hope that for the next teaching, we can just tell our friends...it's cheaper and it works! So please spread the word, via direct contact, e-mail, Facebook, or? Pacific Coast Church, where we will have our next two teachings, has a lot of space...let's fill it up with all our friends who might benefit from Rinpoche's message. Here is information about the Four Noble Truths. You may want to spend some time contemplating this...whether you came to the teaching or not!
This can be done through control of the mind, as well as other skills taught in Buddhism. Stay tuned for more information about these important skills with teachings from Khenpo Karten Rinpoche! Heidi Feldman Tashi Delek, |
dear Dharma brother and sister!
Dear Dharma brother and sister of Khenpo Karten Rinpoche, We invite you to join us for Monday night Amitābha practice with Rinpoche on Feb. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Wave St. Studios, 774 Wave St., Monterey, CA 93940. Please arrive early for some quiet meditation before we begin. All are welcome to join us; feel free to bring a friend to our Sangha. We would also like to you know about a special time with Rinpoche on Wed., Feb. 22, 2 p.m. for a commemoration of Losar, the Tibetan New Year. Usually, this is an occasion of great joy, with special food, singing and dancing. This year, the Dalai Lama has requested that Tibetans around the world forgo all celebration, but instead gather quietly to pray and remember the many Tibetans who have died recently in the escalating struggle for freedom in their homeland. Rinpoche would like us to come together for this occasion and say the Amitābha prayer with him. Please consider joining us to show our support for him and his fellow Tibetans. The series of Public Talks to be offered by Rinpoche. David Molk will translate from the Tibetan. These talks will be meaningful to all who are interested in applying Buddhist wisdom to create a more meaningful life. Please invite your friends to join us, and take some flyers we'll bring on Monday to help us spread the word. All Public Talks are scheduled on Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. I will send you a separate e-mail you can forward to your friends to invite them to join us. We are planning other publicity, including ads in the local papers and various calendar listings. Also, please go to Rinpoche's Facebook (Khenpo Karten) where he has posted the flyer for the teachings. You can "like" them and "share" them to let your friends know about the teachings. Rinpoche loves social media, and I'm learning to like them! It would be great to get a good turn-out for these teachings. Feb. 24 Four Noble Truths Wave Street Studio March 30 Happiness in a Troubled World Pacific Coast Church, Pacific Grove April 13 Being in the Here and Now Pacific Coast Church, Pacific Grove TAKING REFUGE: Rinpoche announced last week that he will offer refuge in the near future. Please sign up at Monday practice if you would like to take this step which will "help you open the door to Buddhism," according to Rinpoche. There is no extra time commitment required to take refuge, it's simply a brief ceremony with Rinpoche after repeating a vow to the Three Jewels--the Buddha, the Dharma (Buddhist teachings) and the Sangha (Buddhist community). Taking refuge is absolutely voluntary, but important if one intends to continue on the Buddhist path. Please feel free to ask any questions about taking refuge you may have at our next Monday night practice. Please call my number below for further information. Hope to see you on Monday and again on Wednesday at Wave Street! Heidi Feldman Tashi Delek, On behalf of Khenpo Karten Rinpoche |
Amitbha practice and teaching about Taking Refuge!
Tashi Delek, dear Dharma Friends of Khenpo Karten Rinpoche, We invite you to join us for another special evening with Rinpoche, on Monday, Feb. 6, at 6:30 p.m. for our weekly Amitābha practice, to be held at Wave St. Studios, 774 Wave St., Monterey, CA 93940. Please arrive early to settle in before we begin. We are happy to announce that Rinpoche has decided to offer refuge to his students who wish to commit more seriously to their Buddhist practice. On Monday, we will take names of anyone who would like to take refuge with Rinpoche at a date soon to be announced. Rinpoche says that taking refuge is like "receiving the key to open the door to Buddhist practice." Taking refuge in the Three Jewels--the Buddha, the Dharma (Buddhist teachings) and the Sangha (Buddhist community)--is generally considered to make one officially a Buddhist. Rinpoche will explain in greater detail what it means to take refuge. It is absolutely voluntary, but important if one intends to continue on the Buddhist path. It is very special to have access to a teacher who will offer refuge. Our translator David Molk will once again assist in this special teaching. All are welcome to join us; please feel free to bring a friend to our Sangha. We appreciate the Wave Street Studio's generous offering of their space for our practice.
